To testify of the daily life within the roman provinces

The daily life will allow to view the different levels of society within the frame of their activities professionally in the first place that also from the domestic point of view. This study line will allow for showing how provincials lived and worked. The subject might seem similar to the one treated in Innsbruck in 2005. The self representation of a society will be a minor theme’s part. We are hoping that the communication propositions won’t emphasize to much on this. Our proposition more geared towards the provincial professional environment, does treat a similar study frame. Because, even if numerous trades are well represented, they are to often analysed within their local unique context. The representation of new documents and the collation of data at the Empire level will be an opportunity to bring forward a professional activities panel and used tools.

In the end, it will be necessary to visit again the funeral embossments in order to enlarge the subject to other subjects than the trades ones : attitude, clothe, jewels or hair fashion for example, but the couple figurations and adopted conventions, the family and the children position, etc… as well. We will have to question the place the representations would take mentioning trades having to do with spectacles, gladiators representations for example, which show on many embossments.

Regional models

Consequently, as we are aware of the congress organisation – the fact of the production issued from the Empire’s provinces-, we feel that it would be useful to bring forward the likeness and /or the divergences of the suggested models in a wide area, from divers passed , with various cultural influences, and balanced expressions. We have chosen a large panel, the Empire as a whole, in order to confronte various realizations. The danubian provinces which links two worlds , Occidental and Oriental, have been given credit on during the first meetings. Other regions have been treated later on in a progressive manner, researchers from various areas have been able to propose their reflexion ant works. We wish to keep this opening in the diversity of the regional and provincial studies and the origin of the research speakers. Dijon proposes to organise the next congress. It’s important to get back to the regional survey. Since then, many university studies have been published and it seems useful to make them known to the scientific community in order to counterbalance this impression of strong disparity between the Empire provinces.

We suggest that one them be retained, in order to keep the overall coherence of the meeting. Nevertheless, a session at least will be dedicated to the not published recent discoveries.
