The colloquium > Introduction

Since 1989, several international congresses dedicated to the Roman Provincial Art, and more particularly to the sculpture, held every other year, in a different European city every time. France is going to be for the second time the host of this scientific demonstration by welcoming this scientific meeting in Dijon. Congress emphasize scientific problems mainly connected to Roman sculpture and to the provincial creation : the correlation between the bottom and the shape, the transmission of models, the identification of regional industrial areas, criteria to identify descriptions and define the chronology are so evoked within the framework of problem determined during every congress.

It is beyond the limits of the empire that come henceforth the participants; not far from around thirty countries are represented. The communications and the posters are presented as well in French, English, German, Italian and Spanish, summaries being proposed to the participants so that they can the communications.

The communications are published and the volume presented during the Congress following one, age two later. During the Congress, are organized the visits of museums, exhibitions or sites according to the local resources. These releases complete the time dedicated to the scientific acticités and allow to discover a region and its wealth. So that all can take advantage of scientific contributions of the meeting, there will be in Dijon no session in parallel.

During the colloquium which was held in Rumania in May-June, 2013, was retained the candidature of Dijon for June, 2015.
